This building is conveniently located within just a half a block to the A train. Traffic for this station was up 13.8% in 2010, providing transport to 2,747,423 passengers that year. A few blocks away in the opposite direction is the elevated 215th station, served by the 1 train and carrying a total of 582,955 passengers in 2010. Just a few blocks further is the Broadway Bridge, bringing 33,266 motorists to Inwood from neighboring Marble Hill. MTA provides regular bus service to the area, and has bus stops at Broadway and West 204th Street and Broadway and West 207th.

Major routes Henry Hudson Parkway, Harlem River Drive, and Major Deegan Expressway (Interstate 87) are all accessible within a mile. This site truly has incredible ease of access to public transportation and all points throughout the city and beyond.

A welcome respite from the daily grind can be found directly across the street in Isham Park, a 20-acre space that is composed of land donated to the city by various members of the Isham family. A yelp.com contributor described it as “a nice little park in a nice little neighborhood,” and marveled how she can walk out of her apartment door and see the park rather than buildings like in most other streets in New York. The park offers walking trails, gardens, outcroppings of Inwood marble, and Nature Adventures for Kids events.

A couple of blocks north of this site is Columbia University’s Baker Field, the primary athletic facility for Columbia University’s soccer, baseball, field hockey, and softball teams. The field is 26 acres and has seating capacity for more than 17,000 spectators.

Fort Tryon Park is just a short walk down Broadway, containing one of the highest points in Manhattan as well as the magnificent and very popular Cloisters, a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and official New York City landmark that houses art and relics from medieval times. The building was reconstructed in the 1930’s with materials salvaged from several European abbeys and is truly a work of art in and of itself. The park also offers great vistas because of its elevation, as well as playgrounds, gardens, and historical landmarks.

Historical Dyckman Farmhouse and Museum is perched just two blocks west at the corner of Broadway and West 204th, and has occupied that site since 1784. The farmhouse tells the story of surviving the Revolutionary War in the formally rural Upper Manhattan, watching the city grow up around the property, and going through various preservation efforts over the years. The museum is open to the public, and holds regular open house events where visitors can enjoy the porch and gardens, and view local artists at work.

The surrounding area is quiet and peaceful, mainly residential in nature, however with many convenience type retail, service, and dining options operating at street level. For example, in the immediate vicinity there is a hair salon, health food salad bar, grocery store, and restaurant, insurance office, real estate office, pharmacy, boutique, and coffee shop. Public School 98 is right next door on West 212th Street. Just a few blocks to the east on West 207th Street is a giant suburban-style Pathmark supermarket, offering variety, convenience, and great prices. West 207th is one of the major retail corridors in the area, offering an incredible selection of retail, dining, and service options. The street becomes Fordham Road in the Bronx, which is also a popular destination for shopping and allows easy access to the neighborhoods found there.

Because of the close proximity to parks, public transportation, schools, and nice retail and services options, this area is considered a “Walker’s Paradise” on walkscore.com.
