Biography

Shelley Haven is a painter and printmaker working in oils, intaglio printmaking and monotype as well as in pastels and other color media. Her work is inspired by the natural and cultural landscape.
Her work is included in the Museum of Modern Art PAD/D and Franklin Furnace Archives; the New York City Public Library Rare Books Collection, Prints Collection, and Periodical Archive; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; and university, corporate and private collections.
Recent awards include grants from the Puffin Foundation and the Manhattan Community Arts Fund; residency fellowships in Costa Rica at the David and Julia White Artists’ Colony, in Spain at Fundacion Valparaiso, and in the U.S. at the Anderson Center, the Millay Colony, the Saltonstall Foundation and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts; and a studio fellowship at the Manhattan Graphics Center.
Ms. Haven’s work was exhibited in a two-person show at Lesley Heller Gallery in 2008. Recent solo exhibitions have been presented at the New York Public Library, Binghamton University’s Rosefsky Gallery, Pfizer Inc. and Thacher Proffitt & Wood. Ms. Haven’s work has also been included recently in group exhibitions at Binghamton University Art Museum, The Cooper Union, CUNY Kingsborough Community College, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, The New York Law School, Seton Hall University Law School, ‘temporary Museum, W.A.H. Center, Old Church Cultural Center, Lesley Heller Gallery, Spike Gallery, Boreas Gallery, mdh fine arts as well as abroad in India, Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, England and France.
Ms. Haven is a native New Yorker who lives and works in New York City. She received her BA from Binghamton University, and MA and MFA from The University of Iowa. Shelley teaches at The Cooper Union Institute in New York City.
